Account Deletion

How to Delete Your Account

If you created an account using Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In, you can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time:

Open the Dad Jokes app on your device
Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top navigation bar
Select "My Account" from the menu
Tap "Delete Account" at the bottom of the screen
Type "DELETE MY ACCOUNT" in the confirmation dialog
Confirm by tapping "Yes, Delete Account"

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

Account Profile: Your account information, including name, email, and profile photo
Saved Jokes: All jokes you've saved to your personal "Vault"
Personalized Content: Any personalized jokes created using your name
Preferences: All app settings and notification preferences
Usage History: Your viewing history and joke interaction data
Authentication: Your Google or Apple Sign-In connection to Dad Jokes

Deletion Timeframe

Account deletion is immediate and irreversible:

Your account and all data are deleted from our servers within seconds of confirmation
You will be automatically signed out of the app
Your data cannot be recovered after deletion
You can create a new account at any time, but previous data will not be restored

Anonymous Users

If you use Dad Jokes without creating an account (anonymous mode):

No server-side data deletion is needed, as we don't store personal data for anonymous users
To clear local data (ratings and preferences), simply delete and reinstall the app
Anonymous usage data may persist in analytics for up to 90 days per Firebase retention policies

Post-Deletion Data Retention

After account deletion:

No personal data is retained on our servers
Aggregated, anonymized analytics may be retained for app improvement
Any user-submitted jokes you contributed may remain in the app (attributed as "Community Member" instead of your name)
Subscription records managed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store are subject to their respective policies
